obit. at Surveyor and Municipal and County Engineer 60 (August 19, 1921) 130: sanitary inspector and housing surveyor in Weardale, whose geology, archaeology, topology, folklore and dialect he studied. Wrote several works in Weardale dialect, including Betty Bodkins’ Letter ted Queen on Cleopatra’s Needle (1878)
